2010 has arrived!  New Years Day run with Gina for 5 miles, very slow and easy.  Nice to have drier roads and warmer  temperatures at 38 degrees at 10:00 a.m.  8:00 minute pace for mile 7 and 7:51 pace for last half mile uphill.  Felt pretty good today.

4 easy miles at 5:10 a.m.  10 min. pace going up.  Faster coming back down.    Another 2.55 this evening on the TM while watching the Fiesta Bowl.  Started at 10 min pace then at 9:00 by mile 1.  Gradually increasing every tenth mile up to 7:15 pace for the last 2/10ths.  Gina not feeling well. Only one run left with her on Wednesday before she moves.  She's been a great training partner these last 7 months and is working hard towards the Ogden Marathon in May.

Nice job so far this week!

Yeah, but after I work out, I am lazy the rest of the day. The life of a stay at home, I lounge in my bed and read and eat chocolate all day. ;o)

From artichoke on Wed, Jan 06, 2010 at 21:27:26 from 71.37.112.45

I could get used to that, especially the chocolate part, since I am a chocoholic since I was a child.

I had a hard time getting back to sleep the other night after waking up at 4am. (It might've had something to do with my wife's snoring.)

Yes. I missed this last year due to an injury. I'm running with a different team this year called "Green Eggs and Sam". In 2007 and 2008 I ran on a team called "Victorious Secret". I love that event! An entirely different venue for running, but I have really enjoyed it. You?

No running today.  Leaving for St. George.  Painter's Half Marathon tomorrow.  Looks like the weather will be cold with a chance of rain.  They appeared to have backed it off somewhat for St. George tomorrow.  They should have stayed with their original extended day forecast.  It was to be cloudy, then by Wednesday or Thursday they started saying rain and now this morning two forecasters show cloudy again.  I guess they've got themselves covered for anything.  Weather through Cedar City may be bad today before dropping down to St. George.  We'll see.  Good luck to all runners tomorrow.

Painter's St. George 1/2 Marathon.  Cold day but rain held off during the race.  Even the sun came out a bit after the race.  Ran conservatively for first couple of miles at 16:00 minutes.  Ran about 7:45 overall pace.  Felt strong at the finish.  1:41:27 was about 36 seconds slower than Snow Canyon 1/2  in November.  166 overall finish, 129 Gender, 12 in M50-54.  A tougher race today with the hills, so a better effort.  Garmin showed it at about 13.16.  Improved the finish area over last year.  The race has apparently been short for a few years until that crazy finish they modified for last year.

Great run, awesome January, and I hear you on spring! I do not really mind winter, but this is an ugly and cold one. if it going to be cold, we at least deserve some snow!

Have a great weekend!

Well, all runners are CRAZY, aren't they? I just like Moab because I like the area and I make it a get away every year with my 28 year old son who loves to mountain bike. I like the route and USUALLY weatherh has always turned out nice. We go hiking in Arches Nat'l Park that afternoon. I've done 35 half marathons over the years, but 10 of those are at Moab. I've done Snow Canyon, TOU, Huntsville, Hobble Creek (my 2nd favorite and old man PR), Provo River, Ogden, Painter's,Golden Spike, Midvale (years ago). Moab is not without its problems, like the cold, long wait at the start. Give it another try.

It's tougher than it looks, because it only drops 75 feet overall, which is hard to believe. Painter's is the toughest one for me. Snow Canyon and Hobble Creek have been the hardest ones on my body. What is your favorite? You continue to do amazingly well. Keep it up!

From Kelli on Sun, Jan 31, 2010 at 11:09:29 from 71.219.89.82

I will for sure give it another try next year (too busy this year). We actually knew the lady who died running it a few years ago, so a huge group from are old neighborhood goes down every year to run. I would love to one day win the award that is in her name (so I have until I am 40 to get really fast!) I am not sure why it was so hard for me, it just kicked my butt. I walked so much in the last two miles it was SAD!!! My husband struggled with it, too!

You love it for all of the right reasons, sounds like a fun trip! The SLC half is still my favorite, but I really have not run too many of them. Before that was Hobblecreek, but I had to skip out on it last year due to an injury, so SLC remained my favorite (when you PR at a race, I think it goes to the top of the list!)

From Kelli on Sun, Jan 31, 2010 at 11:18:24 from 71.219.89.82

Oh, you edited your reply while I was typing mine. Now I have more to say!

I have run Painters twice (2009 and 2010) but I was pacing both times, so I can not properly gauge that race. To me it does not seem so bad!! I need to run it for myself next year and see. It is hilly, but I like hills as long as I can see the end. Moab was all uphill, I do not like that!

I have run:

Moab in 2009 (just seemed downright hard, struggles with starting later, had no fuel, learned I need to eat if a race starts that late. It was HOT.)

Riverton in 2009 (this was the week after Moab so I just ran it for fun, I helped the lady in charge come up with the course so I had run it about 10 times. Ended up getting almost an identical finish time as Moab on tired legs!)

SLC in 2009 (PR'd, loved the fast start and the hill at the end. I am a hill climber, so passing so many people in the end of a race was fun. The crowds were great and I loved the finish line into the Gateway.)

TOU in 2009 (did not like it, but was just coming off of an injury so it was tough)

Hobblecreek in 2008 (loved it, missed 2009 and was bummed, but it had so many problems everyone I know ended up hating it and now my husband says he will never run it again)

Provo River in 2007 and 2008 (I actually like the race okay, it is just so poorly organized. I do not like the end where you twist and turn for almost two miles in a shopping center, but I hear they changed that last year. May give it another try as it is FAST if you can hold on at the end.)

There you go. That is it for me as far as racing. You have done many more!!!!!

From artichoke on Sun, Jan 31, 2010 at 11:26:42 from 71.37.112.45

I couldn't agree with you more about Provo River. Could easily be my favorite with better organization. Curt Catmull means well, but this could be a GREAT event. I wanted to do Hobble Creek instead of TOU last August, but couldn't get in. You're right it has a few problems too. I have never done Salt Lake, maybe I need to give that one a go. The half marathon distance is clearly my favorite event. It's good to be able to be recovered in a week or so and get back to regular training. The marathon zaps me for at least 3 weeks.

From Kelli on Sun, Jan 31, 2010 at 22:13:40 from 71.219.89.82

I agree, the half is my favorite as well. I need to get out and try more of them.

Thanks. I checked out your blog with the treadmill videos. They're hilarious! But, it makes me think twice about getting back on mine. I have a speed increase button that can stick and keep speeding up automatically, (kind of like my 2010 Toyota Corolla that just got recalled).

14 miles this morning  at 9:00 a.m.   8:44 average pace overall.  Not as good as last week, but more hills to deal with today.  A bit sluggish especially going up Smelter Road.  Still feel tight from the track on Thursday night.  Need to get that workout on Tuesday or Wednesday nights, but tough to do with my schedule right now.  Climbed from 5100 ft. to almost 5500 ft. over 3 mile stretch.  Left hip had some pain on the uphills but loosened up after a while.  Came back down with a bit of light snow at first and then a colder head wind for 3 miles or so.  1 mile up and back in Middle Canyon to add two to my standard 12 mile rout. A decent week at 42 miles.

Thanks, Burt. I found the discussion quite interesting. I've only seen Without Limits, on-line. I recently ordered both moives as well as a documentary about Prefontaine. I guess I'll see what I like best. All things considered, cocky or not, Pre was a great runner, especially for 1975 and earlier. It would have been great to see what he would have become.

Teena Marie-

You can watch "Long Green Line" on line on Hulu.com. It's great if you like high school cross country running.

Kelli-

I think I've heard of "Running on the Sun" but haven't seen it. Thanks for the recommendation. Movies like these help me get through these boring winter months. Spring is just a week a way! (On my calendar, anyway).

You two are both great runners! I wish you the best this year in your running goals. Just because 80 miles a week would kill me, doesn't mean it's not right for you. I'm certainly amazed at your efforts! Just be careful.

From Kelli on Sun, Feb 21, 2010 at 21:59:50 from 71.219.89.82

Believe me, I am done for now with that craziness! After Boston, I will be training for an Ultra and back to high miles when I can handle it, but certainly not every week!

The movie is great (it was from the library) but it did give me nasty noenail nightmares!

Didn't run this morning.  Slept about an hour all night with this dang head cold, so I didn't go to work.  Feeling a bit better this afternoon, so ran an easy 4+.  Ran about 7/10ths of a mile from the vet with Savannah, our fat chocolate lab.  She's so out of shape, I need to run her more.  Then I went for about 3.5 more on a cross country route, up near the base of the dam and then behind Little Mountain.  The trail would have been muddier earlier today from the snow we got this morning, but it had started to freeze over and so it wasn't too bad.  9:05 pace overall, but ran the 3rd mile in 7:47 and the last .5 at 7:34 pace.  Clears my head temporarily.

5 miler this morning very easy at 5:10 a.m. to the end of the pavement on Skyline and back with lower loop to 200 S. and home.  Roads were drier than expected with all the melting of the 8.5"+ of snow we got on Saturday.  Winter returned for a short while, but it's warming today they say.

5 mile early run.  42 degrees.  Easy recovery run.  To Grimm's Gate and back direct.  Hamstrings a bit stiff and sore.

5 mile evening run at 6:00 p.m.  Light rain and starting to snow at upper end.  Up Skyline via SR 36 into Elk Ridge Development and back via Loma Vista.  44:26, 8:54 pace.  Last mile or so at tempo pace starting at mile 4, in 7:37.  Felt decent.

Took my crappy Nike Structure Triax +13 shoes back today.  17 miles and already into the EVA foam on one of the waffles.  It's like it delaminated or something.  They felt fine during the race on Saturday, but afterwards I saw this lug of the waffle totally missing.  I was trying to give Nike one more chance after my private boycott of nearly 20 years for various reasons.  These were my 3rd consecutive pair and the mileage wasn't any better than my Asics and for the first time in 27 years I returned a pair of shoes after purchasing them.  Traded them for the Asics 2150 and will stick with them.  I've pretty much been in Asics all of these years, except for some Adidas last fall, so that's probaby where I'll stay for now.

I've been fairly lucky with this weather thing lately. I watch the weather every day and then I wonder why because they seldom get it exactly right. Good luck in your training. You're having a GREAT year already!

I purposely DO NOT watch the weather because then I end up disappointed when they are wrong!

THANKS, BTW. I think I overdid it a hair last week (no laughing, but you can say I told you so!) My body feels fine as far as aches and pains, but I am super tired. Time to lower the mileage so I can function!

6.35 miles tonight at 6:10 a.m. mostly on trail up towards the dam and behind Little Mountain and east of the water tank.  Dropped down to Skyline and up to the gate and back via Loma Vista and Upland loops finishing along S.R. 36 and home.  60 degrees.  Easy running picking up final mile to 8:05. A bit tired tonight.

20 mile long run.  Last of 3 consecutive 60 mile weeks.  Slow on the Smelter Road hills in a snow storm.  By the end of the run in Lakepoint it was nice and sunny.  2:49:41 or 8:29 overall pace.  Much faster after meeting up with Tina for the last 14 miles.  We ran consecutive splits of 7:39, 7:27, 7:30, 7:37, 7:52, and 7:59.  Slowed up going over the knoll on the gravel road before Lakepoint in 8:21 and 8:24.  Then 7:36, 7:51, 8:29, 8:19, finishing with an 8:06 final mile.  Fastest of my three 20 mile runs.  Felt good about that especially after being so slow on the Smelter Road hills in the snow and wet full sweats.  Start tapering next week.

RAGNAR Wasatch Back Relay Friday and early Saturday.  Team: Green Eggs and Sam.  A fun time in Van #1.  I was runner #1 starting at 6:00 a.m.  Nice weather and great running.  We finished in 31:14:27 which was 303rd of 658 in the Mixed division.  My legs (1, 13, and 25) went well.  My first leg was shortened by a full mile and they didn't tell us.  It was scheduled for 7.9 but marked the course without going all the way to 1000E.  They probably realized this was long enough, having extended it enough already from the previous years first leg.  But it would have been nice to know ahead of time.

My times were: 6.9 miles at 6:00 a.m. in 52:30, 8.5 miles at 3:30 p.m. in 63:37, and 4.8 miles at 3:27 a.m.in 39:35.  Garmin splits:  Leg 1:  8:22, 7:40, 7:41, 7:20, 7:31, 7:39.  Leg 13: 9:12, 6:52, 6:50, 7:41, 7:45, 7:32, 6:54, 7:19, 7:31.  Leg 25: 8:32, 8:05, 7:19, 8:18, 8:11.  All things considered everything went very well.  Two consecutive nights of 3 hrs. sleep each, but we had a solid 3 hours staying at a house in Oakley right before my final leg.  A near tragedy when our alternate driver lost the van keys at the Ogden Valley exchange.  Fortunately a good soul turned them in at the lost and found.  We were pretty sure they were dropped somewhere in that hayfield they turned into a parking lot, so we were very fortunate.

From Kelli on Sun, Jun 20, 2010 at 23:39:42 from 71.219.99.30

I am so glad you found the keys!!! And staying at a house must have been heaven! My parents have a cabin about 25 minutes up that canyon, but we decided it would not have been worth the drive. I am still not so sure about that!

SO---was leg #1 shorter for everyone or just you??? I mean, did they fix it later? Our runner #1 said nothing about it being shorter, so I was wondering.

From artichoke on Mon, Jun 21, 2010 at 11:11:26 from 216.49.181.254

The key thing was bit scarey, but prayers are answered. The house we stayed at was only a 1/2 mile away from the exchange and it was great!

Unless they re-marked the course somehow, it was shorter for everyone. I don't know how they could have changed it in the middle of everything. I thought maybe my Garmin had lost tracking or something, but I asked two other runners and theirs just showed 6.9 as well instead of 7.9. I think it was a last minute change or was just mis-marked by the set up crew.

Well, give him the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were able to re-set the markers and re-direct the runners. We had a 6:00 a.m. start, so maybe they found their error. I didn't mind the shorter mileage after everything was over. I hope your team did great.

I think we beat about half of the teams, but we weren't really going for time. It was really fun despite being overly crowded. And I'm not used to the hills, that's for sure. Pretty country up there.

7:00 a.m. 8 mile trail run loop with Tina.  From Settlement Canyon guardhouse up past Camp Wapiti in Left Hand Fork and up trail into Bear Trap.  A lot of uphill running.  One mile was 17:00.  Steep downhill back into the canyon at about 5 miles.  I took a tough fall at 4.5 and sliced my right palm pretty good, blood spurting all over the place.  Gashed my knee and some road rash on the side of my lower leg from the rocks, but no apparent damage to my knee otherwise.  Then 3 fast miles down the gravel road to the Dark Trail and to the finish.  7:20 fastest mile.  A nice morning run on the trails.  I always seem to have memorable runs with Tina.

6 miles at 6:30 p.m.  Quite warm.  Needed to get my 14 miles in.  My ribs are hurting some from my fall this morning, but not as bad as when I hurt them in January of 2009.  53:57, slow easy pace at 9:00 minute mile average.  Skyline to Grimm's and then along canyon rim into mouth of Middle Canyon and back home direct via Vine, 100 S., and 200 W.

5 miles at 5:05 a.m. solo in 45:18.  9:05 average pace.  Easy pace until a more moderate pace last mile.  A bit of a case of Billy-territis set it in.  That's my name for the condition that happens when you see someone out ahead of you and you just have to catch and pass.  Named after my old running friend Billy-bob Terry.  Extremely warm for an early morning run.  Near 80 on my thermometer.  Light wind helped when the shirt came off.  An unsightly scene, I'm sure.

Annual 4th of July Tooele 5K Freedom Run.  335 runners this year.  26th place overall.  25/170 Men, 1st in M50-54.  Ran with Tina until the last 3/4 mile uphill.  She had a bit of problem with her leg, but still managed 20:45.  She got nipped by Amy at the finish line and took 3rd overall women.  Amy is the daughter of a co-worker and friend of mine.  She was the best distance runner at THS this year and just finished her senior year in cross country and track.  I told Tina that I wouldn't feel bad about not beating her, but it was just too close and she was in 2nd place the entire race.  I think she did great especially for just turning 49!

Deseret News 10K next up on the 24th.  I need to get registered.  Running on vacation next week in Chicago, Kirtland Ohio, and Palmyra NY will be challenging.  I plan on doing my long run along the Canadaigua Road.

Chicago, Illinois.   5 easy miles in 45:40.  6:00 a.m. run along the Chicago River trail to the Lakefront Path from the Hyatt to out past Shedd Aquarium and near Soldier Field.  Back through Millennium Park.  Warm and muggy, but a light breeze at times off of Lake Michigan.  More cyclists than runners this morning.  Just the opposite from when I was here in May.

My biggest complaint about runners (and why I don't run using my ipod):  A group of cyclists were coming along and one shouted "bike on the left!"  Just as they passed me a runner in front of me immediately stepped left due to an irregularity in the path and about caused the cyclists to go head on with a cyclist coming the other direction.  A close call.  When I passed the runner a moment later, I said, "that was close", of course he couldn't hear me just as he couldn't hear the cyclist, but I could almost hear "Black Dog", blaring from his ear buds.

My biggest complaint about cyclists:  they want vehicles to provide 3' clearance, but many seldom gave the same clearance from walkers and runners who were over on the extreme right side of the pathway.  Some of these folks were really moving.

Took an extended holiday weekend and went trail running and hiking solo this morning.  9.30 miles total.  Approximatley 4 miles trail running in the Oquirrh Mountains.  Started at 7:30 a.m. at the BSA Wig-wam at base of canyon.  Ran behind Little Mountain on the ridges up towards Corner Mountain pass until trail turned to bush-wacking.  Back town to trail into Left hand Fork of Settlement Canyon joining the Bear Trap trail and back down to canyon road at Legion Park.  Ran home via base of dam and wig-wam road.  Roughly 3 hours.  A bit windy up on the ridge tops, but some nice views of the valley, the Stansbury Mountains and Deseret Peak to the west and the Great Salt Lake to the north.  Carried H2O, snacks, and cell phone, so running was a bit bulky, otherwise nice day for a trail run.  Only one fall.  I'm beat.  Hamstrings still a bit sore from the 10K on Saturday.

15 miles in 2:05:20 with Tina.  8:21 average pace overall.  Droubay Rd. down throuugh Erda, along Erda Way and then the long drawn out uphill from Erda Way up through Overlake Golf course and Overlake subdivision to Glen Eagles.  1:47:20 at 13.1, even with the slow 4 miles uphill.  I was really dragging.  Tina was killing me today.  Usually she only does that on the downhill and I can hold my own on the uphill, but not today.  I was totally spent by 13.5 and really struggled to make 15.  I was scheduled for 16 but that was all I could do to finish 15 and I was really holding her back today.  Oh well, some days you have it some days you don't. Miles 5, 6, & 7 in 7:25 each.  Slowest miles uphill coming back in 9:10 and 9:42.  I just finished reading "Born to Run" today.  An inspiring book, but it still doesn't make me want to run an ultra.

Drier today, but too warm at 7:30 a.m. I still kind of wilted. The "wig-wam" is the BSA camp at the base of the canyon about 1/2 mile from my house. It's usually nice to run through there off of the weekend when the scouts aren't there.

7:00 a.m.  4 miles with Tina.  Tendonitis pain in my lower left hamstring returned by mile 1 and progressively got worse, especially on the downhill after about 2.5.  Walked for half a  mile and then returned home easy on the flat and slight uphill, which wasn't quite as bad.  I think I'll try to see the doc on Monday or as soon as I can.  Maybe he'll give me some cortisone or prednizone, otherwise I think I'm off for two weeks.  The marathn may be out at St. George.  We'll see.  A real bunner!

No running.  Visited the doctor.  Confirmed left hamstring tendonitis.  Prescribed prednizone and physical therapy.  Saw the therapist this afterrnoon.  He feels it is a bit of a pull with some tendonitis adjacent to the tear.  I have visible bruising on the lower hamstring just above the knee.  He is fairly optimistic I can do the marathon in 12 days.  He said if it was really bad, I wouldn't be walking with as little pain as I am.  Had electrical stimulus treatment, ultrasound, massage, and iced compression.  Wants me back on Wednesday and Friday.  Maybe a little cycling or swimming on Thursday and an easy run on Saturday with no elevation changes, so I guess I'll be at the track.  There's nothing flat in Tooele except that track.  We'll see how it goes.

Man, I hope you get better. I was talking to a local speed demon down here yesterday. He just pulled his hammy, too, I think. Before that he was having sciatic (sp?) problems. Now he's not. The doctor thinks there was some scar tissue that was inflaming the nerve and it was just waiting to go.

From artichoke on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 19:30:38 from 75.169.42.114

Thanks. I'm cautiously optimistic, but until I get running on it again, I won't know. I know it could be a lot worse, but this just came out of nowhere. Physical therapy and prednisone got me through the Salt Laek marathon in 2006 when I had achilles problems, so I can only hope for the same miracle.

Slacker blogger here...I hate that I am so busy now. What to do.

Anyway, dang about the injury! I hope it heals up quickly and you are back in your running shoes soon. Can you do anything else or are you just on "bed rest?"

From artichoke on Wed, Sep 22, 2010 at 20:01:09 from 75.169.42.114

I was told not to even walk very far on it or even stretch it out for a while. I'm supposed to warm it up good on Saturday morning, run easy on the flat after walking or cycling some and see how it goes. That will be after my 3rd day of therapy on Friday. I really don't feel much pain at all except when running on it, so I'm hoping it's very minimal, but I was still surprised the PT thought I may be good to go next week. Time will tell. My training was pretty much on schedule, but I've blown my taper weeks.

6 very easy miles on the flat in Stansbury Park. Walked a 1/2 mile first then 2 miles slow running on the track. Felt a bit of pain at 1 mile or so, but it didn't really get worse. Ventured out onto the roads within the neighborhoods and then an out and back along Bates Canyon road, west of the highway. I'm fairly optimistic, but think I will probably have to be somewhat cautious early in the marathon. Therapy scheduled for 3 days next week. 54:24 or 9:04 average pace.

St. George Marathon #18.  I made it.  Worried alot about this hamstring, but it wasn't much of an issue.  I had it wrapped good per the PT's recommendation.  Felt a few twinges in the first 5 miles and a bit afterwards, but all in all it was no problem.  The heat on the other hand was.  I really felt it the last 4 miles or so.  Glad to get this one done.  3:48 isn't what I had hoped for, but I'm pretty happy all things considered.  Glad I BQ'd earlier at Ogden because I didn't get it done today.  Looking forward to the 10 year club dinner tonight.

I'm also on 800 mg of Ibuprofen 3x per day. I had a prednisone pack the first week I was treated after they diagnosed the tendonitis and also thought there was a slight tear, since a small bruise was evident. These things are slow to heal.

Snow Canyon 1/2 Marathon.  Near disasterous today.  Did fairly well through 9 miles holding at about sub 8 pace.  Wasn't trying to run real hard because of the left hamstring which did fair throughout.  Suddenly at about mile 9 I got a bad cramp in my right calf muscle.  I had something similar happen in the Deseret News in 2009 but was able to run through it without much problem.  Today was different as it kept getting worse.  I pulled of twice and stretched it and walked some and was able to continue, but finished a lot slower than I had hoped.  Still hurting tonight, so it's probably more than a cramp and likely a strain.  I think a couple of weeks off may do me some good.  Stretching and light cycling is about all I will attempt.  Nice day weather-wise.  Cool at the start  until we got moving.  I like the new course starting up in Diamond Valley.

4 miles.  Aborted 8 miler with Tina.  More hamstring problems running downhill after 2 miles.  Walked a bit, then ran slowly back home at about 10:00 min. pace.  Feel like I'm back to where I was just before the marathon.  This thing just does not want to get better.

3 mile test run on the TM.  27:25.  Some pain at 1.5, but not real bad, like Saturday.  Just enough to let me know it's there.  Need to decide about  extended time off after testing it out this week.  Will try the next couple of days and see if it worsens.  Ran well last week until Saturday, so if that happens again, I guess it's resting and/or the stationary bike for the month of December.

The panic is starting to set in already about being healthy and ready for Boston. I'm keeping my fingers crossed as well. Thanks.

3 TM miles after work.  Very easy starting out at 10:00 pace and increasing throughout to about 7:40 pace at the end.  Hamstring is still bugging me, but ran through it to see how it responded afterwards.  Somewhat sore all evening after icing.  Will try an easy 8 miler for Saturday's run, but if it grabs me like last week, I guess I'll be off the rest of the month and do some cross training on the bike.

Let me know how it goes. My left calf muscle started bugging me yesterday. And it was like two hours after I was done running!

8 mile solo run this morning.  Wrapped hamstring tight and had no real issues.  Just a hint.  Pace was extremely slow overall, around 10:00 min. pace.  Somewhat encouraging run.

5 miles at 6:15 p.m.  Used Icy Hot, stretched, and wrapped the hamstring before I ran.  No real problems tonight, but an extremely slow pace.  I can just begin to feel something not right still when I try to pick up the pace even a bit.  Still need to be careful.

4 miles easy again, like last night.  6:20 p.m.  To real issues.   Heading to St. George Wednesday and Thursday on business, but hope to get a run in along the Virgin River trail sometime, if I can get the people I'm with to cooperate on the schedule a bit.

8 miles with Tina at 9:00 a.m.  Middle Canyon route to above gas line and back home direct.  Fairly slow going up.  Careful coming down.  Hamstring okay, but had it tightly wrapped.  Icy roads in spots.  7 miles in 1:04:12.  8 miles in about 1:12:30.  Felt good and had a decent week.  Still feel like I need to be very careful.  Tina slowed down for me a lot today, but it was good to be back running with her.

10 miles in 1:28:10 with Tina on the Smelter Road hills.  9:00 a.m.  Light skiff of snow, but no real problems.  32 degrees with a light but cold breeze at times.  A very encouraging run, but felt a bit out of shape on the steeper hills.  I usually run this hill about once a week, but it's been a while.  Just a hint of the hamstring at 8-9 miles.  Tightly wrapped, did okay.  32 miles for the week.

10 miler with Tina at 8:00 a.m.  200 West loop down to Pine Canyon road and Droubay road coming back.  Uphills were killing me.  I'm really feeling out of shape.  It's pretty tought to stay up with Tina right now.  7:30 to 7:45 pace on the early portion.  A lot slower coming up. 35 degrees with fog rolling in and out.  With my chocolate lab, Savannah, for the last .6 mile loop.  Talk about being out of shape!  I was practically dragging her most of the way!

5 TM miles in 46:30.  Progression run from 10:00 min. pace to 8:20 pace.  Plugged into the I-pod today.  I don't normally do that, but too much TM drives me nuts.  Should have put on the spikes and hit the road this morning.  It's only going to get colder the next few days.
